DEVELOPING SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
Much of my work in the UK and Eastern Europe has been around developing social enterprises and advocacy within NGOs and with the state sector. In developing economies where there isnít an established, welfare system it is likely that many service providers will develop as social enterprises, which are able to contract to run services for the state. In the UK with the emphasis on externalisation and commissioning from a range of providers social enterprise is an obvious structure for developing economically sustainable services.
With colleagues from Common Cause and Changing Minds I have been involved in teaching the principles of social enterprise, helping organisations move towards this structure, researching the opportunities for this development, and running a CIC.
